MediaMarkt: people buy a television for the evening, not the specification table
How AI-assisted electronics sales could translate technical television comparisons into meaningful choices for a room, budget and viewing routine.
A television can have so many advantages that the consultation makes you want to lie down, preferably without a television. One technical term follows another. The associate knows the material; the shopper feels underqualified for their own purchase. The actual requirement is simpler: an enjoyable evening watching whatever the household eventually agrees on.
Turn a specification into a useful question
The assistant begins with viewing distance, room lighting, signal sources and budget. It does not need to infer somebody's home from a photograph. It identifies two or three characteristics that materially affect the decision. Other details remain available without turning the conversation into a compulsory engineering examination.
For two models, AI explains the difference, the relevant limitation and what to check in a demonstration. The associate shows that specific point on screen. Connecting an existing device requires its exact model and interface. Calling something a modern television does not constitute a compatibility certificate.
The customer may change priorities, sacrificing a gaming feature to stay within budget. The comparison updates and explicitly shows the compromise. That is not a sales failure. The person understands what they are choosing instead of paying for capabilities that will enjoy a quiet, independent existence without ever being used.
Translate only what can be verified
The inputs must be official specifications for the relevant regional model, current price and availability. Similar names from different years cannot be mixed. Reviews are individual opinions, not substitutes for technical documentation. When sources conflict, a specialist checks them instead of letting AI choose the most persuasive version.
A practical starting point is a limited popular range and have experienced colleagues verify every comparison. New associates could use the assistant to prepare, rather than read a mandatory script. They should be able to explain the recommendation themselves. Otherwise learning has merely moved from a slide deck into a smaller window.
Assess the help rather than the eloquence: error-free comparisons, time to an informed shortlist, and returns linked to incorrectly explained capabilities. Compare similar price segments and promotional periods. Shorter consultations are not automatically better if the customer has simply become tired and agreed to end the conversation.
MediaMarkt publishes television buying advice. That is the documented context for this independent AI sales proposal, not evidence that the retailer has deployed it. I am interested in translating specifications into consequences for a particular use, rather than automating the recital of a catalogue.
The commercial value is reducing the knowledge barrier around a purchase. Not everyone needs to understand televisions like the person selling them. A good store helps people decide without making them feel inadequate. Technical expertise then starts serving the customer's decision, rather than the associate's performance of being impressive.
